Miata Reunion: WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca 2019

Hot laps

On Saturday and Sunday, we will have five run groups that will run 5 18-minute session each. The cost to participte is $250 per day, which is a great price for this legendary track.

Instructors are available in any group. Please note: The lapping sessions are not a race event. Our goal is to provide a safe and enjoyable event for all participants, whatever their level of experience. Anyone who does not drive in a safe and courteous manner may be asked to leave, with no refund.

Expert - A Group

This group is primarily filled with current or former licensed race drivers or non-racers with a minimum of 20+ events and very well prepared track cars.  These are essentially the fastest cars and drivers at the event.  Open passing is allowed but passing in corners, stealing apexes, and aggressive driving is frowned on.  Courtesy point-by hand signals are always encouraged, and we prefer to see passes made before the turn-in point of a corner.  The key here is track experience, awareness, predictability and no surprises!

Advanced - B Group

This group is similar to A Group but is not restricted to current or former race licensed drivers.  'B' drivers will have a minimum of 10+ events experience and have the awareness on track to pass and be passed with open passing rules.  This group also consists of both track prepared and street legal cars that are driven to the event.  As above, there is no passing in corners, stealing apexes, or aggressive driving, and courtesy point-by’s are strongly encouraged to enhance safety. Once again the key here is track experience, awareness, predictability and no surprises!

Upper Intermediate - C Group

Drivers in this group must have the skills and track experience to safely share the track with other cars of varying speeds and capabilities. The vehicles in this group could be street or track prepared, and C drivers are required to have a minimum of 4+ verifiable track days under their belt in the past 3 years (parade laps do NOT count as “track days”) including completion of at least one track day at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. All passing in this group is controlled by the vehicle being overtaken, and only with mandatory point by. Passing is not allowed unless the car being overtaken has authorized the pass with a hand signal. As above, there is no passing in corners, stealing apexes, or aggressive driving.

Lower Intermediate - D Group

Drivers in this group will typically have recently graduated from the novice group, but do not yet have extensive track experience. The vehicles in this group could be street or track prepared, and D drivers are required to have a minimum of 2+ track days experience in the past 3 years. All passing in this group is controlled by the vehicle being overtaken, and only with mandatory point by. Passing is not allowed unless the car being overtaken has authorized the pass with a hand signal. As above, there is no passing in corners, stealing apexes, or aggressive driving.

Novice - E Group

This group typically consists of first time drivers and/or drivers with 3 or fewer track days experience and no experience driving at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.  In the interest of everyone’s safety, first time drivers will have an instructor assigned to them, to include riding along in the car, and will also have mandatory classroom/download sessions. After demonstrating the requisite skills and experience to their instructor, those who demonstrate adequate experience, safety and skill may be allowed to run 'solo' (without an instructor).  All passing in this group is controlled by the vehicle being overtaken by way of mandatory point by hand signals, and passing is restricted to designated straight sections of track described in the drivers meeting.  Passing is not allowed unless the car being overtaken has authorized the pass with a hand signal.   As above, there is no passing in corners, stealing apexes, or aggressive driving.

Passenger Rules

Passengers are allowed in all run groups with the exception of Novice. Novices signed off to drive 'solo' (without an instructor) can take passengers if approved by Instructing Staff at the event.  Passengers must be registered Participants and have signed all event waivers and wear an approved helmet, and the passenger seat must have a restraint system equal to or better than the drivers.  All passengers must be 18 years of age or older.  Minors between the age of 16 and 17 allowed only with prior approval of Event Staff, including Minor Waivers signed by parents the day of the event.
